There's a New Blog in Town

The time has come to say goodbye to this blog.  We've been together for 3 years.  Typepad has been good to me, but alas it's time to move on.  You'll find all new posts at the link below.  Come on over and leave a comment or two. Oh, and be sure to update your RSS feed.

See ya over there!

THE WORKSHOP is almost here!

EDITED TO ADD: THE WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT!!  See you all on April 1st!

The WORKSHOP is just one week away.  I created a little teaser in the form of a storyboard to wet your appetite for some of what we have in store.  First of all, I'm delighted with all the businesses that have donated prizes!!  I totally wish I could win.  Secondly, I love how your cheat sheets turned out.  They'll be the perfect size to carry in your camera bag, but WAY to cute to keep them there.  Oh, and it's not too late to sign up a friend either.  I think we may have room for a couple more.

ATTENDEES: Be on the look out in your inbox.  All the final details and reminders are coming shortly.

Field of Dreams

During the winter I suffer from some sleepless nights. It's the season I dream up & begin putting into place ideas for my company's upcoming year.  I tend to count more ideas than sheep and ideas never put a girl to sleep.   As spring and summer approach, I get to sit back and see if my ideas will fly or flop.... I can loose some sleep over that too.

The photo of this Senior running through the field on one of our first spring days this year ignited a feeling of hope, hope for some flying in 2009.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I don't walk out the door to a photo shoot without my Shootsac.  It's totally changed how I photograph.  It's convenient, people, and I need all the convenience I can get.   Jessica, the mastermind behind the camera bag, held a contest.  The only rule, photograph your Shootsac cover being used in an out of the ordinary way.  I replaced our American flag on our front porch with a Shootsac cover and  I won!   I was kind of embarrassed while shooting considering our neighbors & their guest were outside, but perhaps it feels worth the public humiliation now that I've got a new cover coming my way!

Miss them Already

Our WONDERFUL neighbors are moving tomorrow.  They will be sorely, painfully, extremely, _______ {fill in your own adverb there, cause I'm feeling them all} missed.  Truthfully I've been living in denial that they are really leaving.  Even when the moving van pulled up, I just complimented them on what must be their new family vehicle.  Nonetheless, I had a little time with the youngest neighbor before they officially scoot on out of here.

Some of my studio accessories were put to use. The felt flowers kept this little mover put for a minute.

Daylight Savings Knoocked Me Out: That's My Excuse.

I was SO crabby today.  I hate it when I feel like that. I couldn't even come up with a reason.  Daylight Savings?  Perhaps.  I'll go with that.  I have always needed a lot of sleep!  Anyway, things were so much better after this shoot.   I truly enjoy my job.

A headshot session for a talented young actor.  Keep your eye out for this dude, people.

What's Up with the Weather?

I have a few more '09 Seniors sneaking in yet before they graduate.  This beautiful Senior chose to have her session on her grandma's amazing property.  Even on a gloomy day the shoot was a ray of sunshine.  Speaking of sunshine.....  This weekend is scheduled to be in the high 70s.  We had a snow storm last Sunday and this Sunday we could lay out in the sun.  I thought only Michigan had that crazy kind of weather!!

Canon 30d For Sale

EDITED: Camera SOLD.

I'm preparing to list my backup camera on Ebay and thought I'd post it here first.  I bought the EOS 30d 8.2MP Digital SLR Camera about 2 years ago used it sparingly for about 6 months and then I upgraded to the Canon 5d. Since then it's sat in my camera bag in case I needed it.  I haven't.  It's like new.  I have the original box, battery, and charger too.  I'm selling it for $400.  I also have the Canon 24mm 2.8 lens for sale.  It has seen even less use.  I think I may have used it 2-3 times.  I have the original box for it as well.  I'm selling it for $200.  Or, you may buy both for $550.  Shipping is $20, pick up of course is free. Email me at sara@smapix.com if you are interested.

Beginners Workshop: Stepping Outside the Green Box

S 1web

If you have a SLR digital camera {AKA: you can change your lens} and you want to know how to take better pictures with it, this is the workshop for you.  We will cover practical ways to improve your photography skills. Some of the topics covered will be...

Understanding your camera functions:  What do the cute little flower and running man mean on my camera? If I want to learn to shoot manually, what are some baby steps I can take to begin that process?
Photo composition: Best ways to crop a photograph.
Lighting: How do I find the most flattering light when taking photographs?
Storytelling: When I tell my child to say cheese, I get the cheesiest smiles! How can I change that?
Hands On Training: The Vintage Flea will be hosting us, so we'll be just steps away from super cool downtown locations. Therefore, we'll head out to practice all that you've learned the first half of the class.  Bonus... while I'm teaching you'll each get a chance to be my models, so you'll receive a smokin' headshot for your Facebook profile picture!
Questions: There will be a question and answer segment.  Because this class is not intended for photography business owners or persons looking to start a photography business, no content will be covered regarding running a photography business.

Where? Historic Downtown Newnan at the Vintage Flea
When? Wednesday, April 1st {no foolin'} 10am-2ish
How Much? $60, covers: snacks, info. sheets & priceless photography training.

Bring your own lunch or join us for a late lunch after the workshop at the Redneck Cafe {not covered in the workshop fee}.  I plan to eat at the Redneck and will be available to answer any questions you may have that weren't covered in class.

*** Class size is limited, so don't wait.  Sign up today! Contact sara@smapix.com to register.
